Jazziam was founded by singer and bandleader Athalie de Koning in 2012 out of a desire to bring authentic music to audiences with a particular love for old-fashioned jazz tunes. A combination of the words “jazz” and “Siam,” Jazziam plays with the balance between traditional values and modern ones. Jazziam plays timeless jazz standards, but does not shy away from experimenting with funky reinventions of these old tunes, always keeping swing, freedom, and improvisation as the main focus. Currently, Jazziam plays at The Living Room, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, every Sunday and Monday evening. They have signed on for Sunday Jazzy Brunch 12:15-15:00 and Monday evening 21:15-00:00 for the 2015 season. Every other month on Saturday, they can be found at Park Society, Sofitel SO from 20:00-23:00. Other nights of the week, the band members play in various collaborations at venues such as Plaza Athenee Hotel, Wolff’s Jazz Bar, and River City. Jazziam regularly entertains at weddings, swing dance parties, formal dinners, awards shows, and other special events. Venues include Holiday Inn Phuket, Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Pattaya, Silverlake Pattaya, Smiles Jazz & Bistro, Whisgars, Grand Hyatt Erawan, the Chatrium Hotel, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the Hop, Iron Fairies, Sala Sudasiri Sobha, and Tubkaak Boutique Resort Krabi, among others. Klong Sabud Chai is an old traditional Lanna drum performance which can be seen in many local parades and events. The styles are very exciting and encouraging as parts of the body; such as elbows, knees and head, are implemented during the perfomance. In the past, people played Klong Sabud Chai in order to encourage the soilders before they went to fighti, to make them feel excieted and give them moral support. Also, it was played after they won the war.
